WHAT TO BRING

FROM HOME

Boots are the one thing you should never hire — they need to be broken in on your own feet. Everything else can be rented in Moshi.

Footwear

Waterproof hiking boots, broken in well before you fly, plus four pairs of thick wool socks and camp shoes.

Clothing Layers

Thermal base layers, a fleece mid layer, and a waterproof hard-shell jacket and trousers.

Summit Gear

A down jacket rated to −10°C, warm waterproof gloves plus liners, a balaclava and a warm hat.

Equipment

Headlamp with spare batteries, a 25–30L daypack, sleeping bag, trekking poles, sunglasses and sunscreen.

HIRE IT

IN MOSHI

Everything is fitted at our office the day before you climb, so if something is the wrong size we swap it there and then rather than on the mountain.

Tell us what you need

Send your list on WhatsApp when you book, or just tell us your height and jacket size and we will put a kit together.

Fit it at our office

We meet you in Moshi or Arusha the day before your climb and fit everything properly. Wrong size gets swapped immediately.

Return it at the gate

Hand it back at Mweka Gate when you come down. No deposit held, no cleaning charge, no paperwork.

Our standard

KIT WE WOULD

CLIMB IN OURSELVES

Rental gear on Kilimanjaro has a bad reputation, and some of it is deserved. Thin sleeping bags marketed as four-season. Down jackets that have been on forty climbs without a wash.

Ours is inspected after every single trek, washed and re-lofted between hires, and retired on a fixed schedule rather than when it falls apart.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

We would rather you did not. Boots need breaking in on your own feet over weeks — hiring a stiff pair the day before a seven-day trek is the fastest route to blisters that end your climb. Everything else, hire freely.

15kg, strictly. This is a KPAP welfare limit for our porters, and it is weighed at the gate. Anything over stays in free storage at your hotel.

Yes. We stock down jackets and shells from XS to XXL and sleeping bags in regular and long.

Tell your guide. The crew carry a repair kit and spares of the small things. There is no charge for normal wear or an honest accident.
